Sharon Gannon and David Life are living embodiments of the Yoga Sutra II 46 – ‘The connection to the earth should be steady and joyful’. This relates both to your asana practise and to your connection to the planet we live on and that supports us We are working to make Sharon and David’s trip to Australia as environmentally friendly as possible. We encourage you to take your yoga practise off the mat and to consider the environment both before, during and after your time with Sharon and David.

TravelIf you can avoid flying to any of Sharon and David’s workshops please do. It’s not always easy but if you can find the time to take a road trip with some friends and car share, or better yet take the train or bus, then the earth will love you for it. If flying is unavoidable then please offset your flight through a company that will invest in renewable energy on your behalf. Thank you.

Bring your own reusable coffee mug: Keepcup do a great, portable, reusable mug. You can buy them at Samadhi Yoga or online. You’ll be able to use it for years to come – saving hundreds of trees in the process.

Water: It takes three litres of water to create one litre of bottled water and bottled water takes 2,000 times the energy of tap water to produce. Buy (or borrow) a reusable aluminium bottle and fill it up from the tap or a water filter.

Clothing and grooming: Please consider the environmental effects for the clothing and personal effect you will be bringing to Sharon and David’s classes – especially if you are buying things new for the events. Chose clothes that are made of natural products such as cotton, hemp, bamboo (but please avoid animal products). If you’re due for a new mat buy an eco mat made of rubber or jute. Avoid PVC if you can. Check the ingredients of your toothpaste, deodorant, perfume, moisturiser, shampoo, body wash etc. Are these products full of chemicals? Why not explore natural options instead? Buy reused or recycled whenever possible.

Food: Sharon and David are passionate advocates of Ahmisa (non violence) especially in relation to animals. Eating animals is bad for the planet, bad for your body and bad for the animals. Please try your best to eat vegetarian during your time with Sharon and David.

Getting Around: If you’re coming to Byron Bay for the retreat why not hire a bike to get around? Contact Byron Bay Bicycles (02) 6685 6067 or Byron Bay Bike Hire  0500 856 985

Power: If you’re leaving your home empty to come to the workshops then turn off all your power points before you leave the house (except the fridge!). This makes sure that your appliances aren’t consuming standby power on your behalf while you’re off becoming enlightened.

Namaste!
